I am a qualified secondary English teacher, with many years of experience teaching in local schools. I am also a highly experienced tutor, and have successfully tutored a number of students at all levels. I am experienced in teaching all the major examination boards. Furthermore, I am trained in delivering early years and primary phonics.
My lessons are always planned in accordance with the specific needs of each student, and I have experience of dealing with SEN and EAL students. I am passionate about helping children achieve their full potential in this subject, and hopefully unlocking some of the joy of literature along the way.
I would love to chat further about how I can help your child with secondary English. Please feel free to get in touch via any of the methods listed below.

What parents say
"Jo was absolutely amazing in helping my daughter to get ready for her GCSE exams in English Language and Literature. I could see that Jo is an experienced teacher by the way she quickly established the areas my daughter needed the most help with and focused on those. As a result, in a matter of a few month she boosted my daughter’s confidence in the subject which had a positive effect on her grades. I’ve found Jo to be positive, reliable and organised. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs a tutor in English."
"We feel so lucky to have found Jo during this tricky time. My son is in year 8 and is finding home schooling very difficult. He misses the teacher/student interaction in the classroom and although I attempt to try and explain what he needs to do, neither of us are confident with my explanation. My son has written this review... ‘Jo tutors me in English on Mondays and she is lots of help, especially in a times like this where children can’t reach out to their teachers. Before I started being tutored by Jo I didn’t understand analysation, but now after only 3 sessions I completely understand it. When she helps me she is very calm and patient and she broke it down into easy stages and explained it in great detail.’ Thank you Jo for helping Will, he is far more confident and realises he is capable of achieving the tasks set by his school teacher. I would highly recommend Jo to any child struggling with their school work."
